The Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada® (AFCC®) certification program is the professional designation for financial counselling professionals.

The AFCC® designation marks the highest standard of excellence in the field of financial counselling and education.  It recognizes the unique skills, knowledge and integrity of highly trained financial practitioners in the areas of personal finance, consumer credit, money management and financial counselling.

Using the skills acquired through AFCC® training, allows the financial counselling professional to provide a high-level, tailored approach, based on the needs of each client, to effectively analyze and create lasting financial behavior change.

AFCC® Certification Program Details and Content

The AFCC® program allows candidates to set their own pace of learning for the program through a self-paced study format.

Canadian designed, the AFCC® program, consists of two principal components in the study curriculum. These components are the Personal Finance module and the Financial Counselling Skills module. Each of the two modules of the AFCC® program is comparable to a college semester or university course.

AFCC® program modules are comprised of knowledge and skills-based learning. Both of these important components are required to be mastered by candidates in order to earn the AFCC® designation.

AFCC® Enrollment and Requirements to Achieve Certification

Your AFCC® enrollment includes course materials that are comprised of text books and study guides and two exams. A proctored exam is required to be passed at a 70% or greater achievement level for each program component. Following successful completion of both exams, candidates provide letters of reference attesting to their skill level and sign an agreement to adhere to the AFCC® Code of Ethics.

AFCC® candidates have up to 3 years to complete the program. However, many ambitious candidates set their sights on achieving their AFCC® designation much sooner to enjoy the many benefits of being a certified professional.

After qualifying and achieving professional certification as an AFCC®, to maintain certification, Designees are required to pay an annual certification fee and complete 30 Continuing Education Units of professional development, every 2 years.
