City of Toronto: Review of Licensing and Cap on Payday Loan Establishments

Information here.

Inspired By The Extraordinary Power of Personal Financial Well-Being

The City of Toronto is reviewing regulations for payday loan establishments and wants to hear from you and any groups within your network who may be interested in providing their input.

Toronto City Council adopted interim regulations for payday loan establishments in early 2018. This included the creation of a new municipal business licence called the payday loan licence, and a cap on the number of locations permitted in Toronto.

The Municipal Licensing and Standards Division was directed by Council to report back within one year with a review of the City's payday loan licence and cap, including reviewing how best to regulate payday loan establishments.

You are invited to provide your input at a public consultation on Thursday, July 25 from 6-8 p.m. The meeting will be held at the North York Civic Centre (5100 Yonge Street), Members Lounge.

We hope that you can help us to promote this consultation among groups within your network.. Please find below a short article for either your website or newsletter and a sample social media post that you can use to promote this consultation.

More information on the Payday Loan Establishment Review is available on the City's website.
